What is this term Viral we have been hearing so much about? It sounds bad? What is a Viral video? We will cover these and other questions in this article. We will also go through a real live example of how a viral video can spread.
Lets start with a definition. I quote wikipedia here: “Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self replicating viral processes, similar to the spread of pathological and/or computer viruses.
Long story short it is a way to use the already established media channels as a means of distributing your message. Just genius.
Ok, so now that we have the definition out of the way, why is a chubby kid singing a song in a high voice considered a viral video? Well because of the way it is spread. Lets take that chubby kid for example. Lets call him Brian in this example.
So Brian records himself and posts it on Youtube. Now, Bethany happens to think chubby kids singing is hilarious and stumbles upon the video on you tube. She then decides to post it to her Myspace account so all her friends can see it. When all of her friends see it, they laugh and post it to their accounts and so on and so forth it starts to spread.
Replicate this process with the other social media giants like facebook and twitter and you have yourself an outbreak on your hands. It can even be furthered on blogs, with email chains and with social bookmarking.
So by now all the capitalists reading this are rubbing their greedy little hands together coming up with a scheme to be the next Frank Kern. That is not actually a bad idea as Frank has been known to rake in millions a day all while out surfing the reefs and beaches of lovely Southern California.
The others are probably hatching a plan to get their crazy video out there and become famous. To that I say more power to you.
Keep it up, go out there and make a million and get a million hits.
